Empowering the Future of Medicine: A Heartfelt Thank You to Yale ER Doctors and Collaborators

Yale Simulation Lab 2024 x BMOS 127

At the 100 Black Men of Stamford, we believe that “What they see is what they can become.” That belief came to life in a truly inspiring way during last Thursday’s Emergency Simulation Event, where minority high school students were given a rare, hands-on opportunity to step into the fast-paced world of emergency medicine.

The success of this immersive experience is a testament to the incredible collaboration between some amazing individuals and organizations. I want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tatiana Moylan at the Yale Center for Healthcare Simulation, Waverly Rose Brim from Minorities in Medicine, Justin Stevens from the 100 Black Men of Stamford, Alex Ambroise from Future5, Teresa M. Wilson at VIP College Prep, and the brilliant ER doctors from Yale School of Medicine who made this event a reality.

From the moment students walked in, they were given a glimpse of what a career in healthcare could look like—whether in emergency medicine or other life-saving roles. The real-world simulations, led by dedicated professionals, gave these students a hands-on experience like no other. They learned about emergency response, decision-making under pressure, and the important teamwork required to provide critical care.

This event didn’t just offer knowledge; it ignited possibility. For students from underrepresented backgrounds, seeing professionals who look like them in roles they might not have considered is powerful. These young minds left knowing that medicine, healthcare, and emergency services could indeed be part of their future. It’s events like this that break barriers, build confidence, and open doors for the next generation of healthcare heroes.

We are grateful to every participant and organization involved. Your time, effort, and commitment are creating real change, fostering dreams, and shaping futures. As we look ahead, I’m excited about the impact this event will have on these students and the continued partnerships that will keep empowering them to reach for the stars.

To all involved—thank you for believing in these young students and for being role models who inspire them to see what’s possible.

Together, we’re not just talking about the future; we’re actively building it.
