On October 19, 2024, the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse in Bridgeport, CT, became a hub for inspiration and learning, as the Stamford Alumni Kappa League program joined forces with the 100 Black Men of Stamford (100BMOS) to empower young men with vital skills for their future. The event focused on two essential pillars of personal and professional development: financial literacy and resume building.
The Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., alongside 100BMOS, led the event with a strong lineup of financial professionals. Together, they underscored the importance of financial literacy as a cornerstone for achieving financial independence and stability. The interactive session incorporated iGrad, a hands-on financial literacy learning system that helped participants grasp key financial concepts like budgeting, saving, and managing money effectively.
Participants were encouraged to share their perspectives on financial wellness and their current strategies for managing their finances. This open dialogue allowed students to explore ways they could strengthen their financial foundation, sparking insights that are sure to guide their personal financial journeys.
The conversation then transitioned to resume building, connecting the dots between current activities, financial literacy, and employability. Students were guided on how to translate their experiences into valuable skills for potential employers, highlighting how personal finance and resume building go hand-in-hand in preparing for the workforce.

Justin Stevens, representing 100BMOS, took a hands-on approach with one of the Kappa Leaguers aspiring to enter financial planning and analysis. Through a mock interview, Justin demonstrated the art of crafting an effective elevator pitch, emphasizing the importance of making a strong first impression and capturing the attention of potential employers.
Adding his unique perspective, Mr. Olivier Kpognon shared his journey from Wall Street to international photography, illustrating the importance of intentionality and perseverance. His story resonated deeply with attendees, reminding them that career paths are often dynamic and that early experiences can open doors to unexpected and rewarding opportunities.
At 100 Black Men of Stamford, we’re honored to be strategic partners with the Stamford Alumni Kappa League and to play a role in equipping young men with the tools to thrive both financially and professionally. Through events like these, we aim to inspire, support, and guide the next generation in building a future defined by purpose, resilience, and success.
